| Intervet Australia Pty Ltd (recently purchased
by the international company Schering Plough Pty Ltd)
design and manufacture animal health products and vaccines
at their Bendigo facility. Distribution of their animal
pharmaceuticals products is worldwide.
Morey & Hurford (A Division of Fairbrother P/L)
were brought on board by Intervet, very early in the
design process of their new Quality Assurance Laboratory
Building, to be situated at their high security compound
in Bendigo.
In working closely with the client and the appointed
team of consultants, the project developed into 3 general
zone areas:
1. Office / Administration area where the general staff
duties are undertaken.
2. Pressurised laboratory zone, comprising approximately
80% of the floor area, where circulation of clean air
through HEPA filter systems (identical to hospital operation
theatres) is of prime importance. Pristine conditions
in this section of the facility drove the design. Wall
and ceiling panels throughout this section are Kingspan
fire rated “sandwich” panels, finished in
colourbond coatings. All services penetrating the walls
and ceilings are caulked and thoroughly sealed to ensure
nil leakage of the pressured air.
3. Ceiling space plantroom zone, accessible by external
staircase and cleanly laid out with full walkway to
allow access to all plant, equipment and lighting systems
for all future maintenance and replacement requirements.
Externally the facility is once again completed in
colourbond Kingspan panels with bold blue colours highlighting
the main structure of the facility and which was purposely
kept to the outside to ensure clean uninterrupted walls
within the laboratory zone.
